salerno – Restoring beauty, identity, and value to the emblematic places of a community signifies preserving memory and building the future. With this mindset, the revitalization project of Piazza Alario, one of the most iconic and evocative spaces in the City of Salerno, has been completed.
The initiative, fully supported and promoted by the Fondazione Monte Pruno, in collaboration with Banca Monte Pruno and in close partnership with the Municipality of Salerno, has enabled the restoration and enhancement of the historic fountain “Saliera,” a symbol of the square, along with a broader urban revitalization effort for the entire area.

This initiative signifies not only the restoration of a historical and artistic asset but also a tangible sign of care for the city, its residents, and the quality of public spaces designated for social interaction and gathering.
Crucial to the realization of the project was the moral support, enthusiasm, and involvement of many Salernitan friends of Banca Monte Pruno, who were true advocates and key players in this initiative, firmly believing in the need to restore dignity and centrality to one of the city’s symbolic locations.
Essential was the institutional collaboration
provided by the Municipality of Salerno and the relevant Superintendency, which accompanied every phase of the intervention with availability, sensitivity, and great professionalism.
The restoration work was carried out by the specialized firm Vassallo – Centro Restauro, which operated with expertise and particular attention to preserving the historical and artistic value of the monumental fountain. The continuous and valuable efforts of Architect Mario Palmieri were also instrumental, as he dedicated himself to overseeing the entire execution of the project, coordinating each phase with care and technical sensitivity.

The project involved the conservative restoration of the historic monumental fountain, the recovery and integration of urban furnishings, new plantings, and the overall enhancement of the area, returning to Piazza Alario a renewed, elegant image that is fully aligned with its historical identity.
The President of the Fondazione Monte Pruno and of the Banca Monte Pruno, Michele Albanese, expressed great satisfaction with the completion of the project:
“This work originates from the heart and represents a genuine gesture of gratitude towards the City of Salerno and towards a community that, over the years, has shown trust, affection, and closeness to our Bank.
Piazza Alario is not merely a restored urban space, but a place of collective memory that comes back to life in its original beauty, once again becoming a point of gathering, social interaction, and civic identity.
I wish to extend a sincere and special thank you to the Salernitan friends of Banca Monte Pruno who, with passion, love for the city, and a strong sense of belonging, have been the true moral promoters of this initiative. Their enthusiasm and sensitivity have represented the decisive push for this project to become a reality.
A heartfelt and sincere thanks also goes to Vincenzo napoli, former Mayor of the city, to the Councillors, to the municipal technicians, to the Superintendency, to the firm Vassallo – Centro Restauro, to Architect Mario Palmieri, and to all those who, each in their role, collaborated with a constructive spirit and institutional attentiveness.
We continue to believe that the role of a Cooperative Credit Bank should not be limited to economic results but should translate into tangible presence, social responsibility, and genuine attention towards the territories. Growing together with communities also means safeguarding their history, beauty, and truest essence.”
